The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Friday revealed the target sites where clinical trials for vaccines developed by Janssen, Clover and Sinovac would be held.
Science and Technology Undersecretary Rowena Guevara said the government had yet to fix a timeframe for the conduct of clinical trials.
“But they intend to start the soonest when the process of determining and preparing their trail sites are completed,” Guevara added.
Below are the target sites for clinical trials:
Janssen: San Pablo, Laguna; Cabuyao, Laguna; Makati City; La Paz, Iloilo; Bacolod City; and Metro Manila
Clover: Quezon City; Makati City; Manila City; Taguig City; Las Piñas City; Muntinlupa; Calamba, Laguna; and Dasmariñas, Cavite
Sinovac: Quezon City; Marikina City; Pasay City; and Alaminos, Laguna
The three vaccine manufacturers were the only ones to be given the authorization to conduct clinical trials in the country.
According to the US National Intelligence Authority, clinical trials are research studies performed in people that are aimed at evaluating a medical, surgical or behavioral intervention.
“They are the primary way that researchers find out if a new treatment, like a new drug or diet or medical device is safe and effective in people. Often a clinical trial is used to learn if a new treatment is more effective and/or has less harmful side effects than the standard treatment,” it said on its website. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
