The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday vowed to provide financial aid to the families of the two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) killed in a gas explosion in Abu Dhabi.

The blast occurred on Aug. 31 in a KFC restaurant at Sheikh Rashid Bin Seed Road.

Authorities reported that a gas leak caused the explosion.

The two Filipinos, Clark Bacud Gasis and Merriner Goc-ong Bertoces, were the only casualties.

Eight other Filipinos suffered injuries.

“Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said both victims… will receive P120,000 bereavement assistance each from the government,” DOLE said in a statement.

DOLE said they would also be eligible for insurance benefits if they are qualified members of the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
