The Department of Health (DOH) advised the public that the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic is far from over even with a decrease in cases recently.
The Health Department issued the warning after 54 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed from a street swimming pool party held on May 9, and a drinking and videoke session on May 11 both in Quezon City.
The Quezon City government released video footage showing people partying and not wearing face masks nor socially distancing.
Health authorities are still waiting for the Covid-19 results of 20 other partygoers.
“Nakakagulat at nakakalungkot dahil maya’t maya naman po ang ating paalala na bagamat bumababa po ang ating mga kaso dito sa ating bansa, specifically in NCR, we are not out of the woods yet,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a briefing.
“Nandito pa rin po ang virus at maaari pa rin pong tumaas ulit ang ating mga kaso,” she added.
Vergeire explained that the DOH is already working with local governments to strictly enforce health protocols against Covid-19.
She also advised the public to stay vigilant and avoid parties as of the moment.
“Alam naman po natin sabik na sabik na kayo, tayong lahat na magkaroon ng ganitong mga pagkakasiyahan pero… sana po ay patuloy pa rin ang ating pag-iingat,” Vergeire said. Ronald Espartinez
