The Philippines logged 20,741 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 2,061,084.

This marks the second consecutive day where new cases reported exceeded the 20,000 mark. Amid the high numbers, the Department of Health (DOH) said five Covid-19 laboratories failed to submit their daily reports on time.

Currently, there are 157,646 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment and quarantine: Of the active cases, 94.7% are mild, 1.9% are asymptomatic, 1.2% are severe, and 0.6% are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate climbed to 1,869,376 with 21,962 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 34,062 with 189 new fatalities.

The health department also reported that 225 duplicate cases were removed from the nationwide count.

“Moreover, 81 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said. Ronald Espartinez
