The Department of Health (DOH) reported that 74% of the 4,100 intensive care unit beds dedicated for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in the country are already occupied.

The DOH added that 73% of the 1,400 ICU beds in the National Capital Region were also occupied.

Moreover, 70% of the 14,600 beds in Covid-19 wards across the country are already occupied as well.

The health department explained that the occupancy rates in the country and in the NCR are considered “high risk” since it is more than 70% but less than 85%.

A facility is considered critical if the bed utilization rate exceeds 85%, while an occupancy rate between 60% to 69% is tagged as moderate.

The DOH  added that 55% of the 3,200 ventilators across the country are currently utilized, while 61% of the 1,100 ventilators in the National Capital Region are also in use. Ronald Espartinez
