Vice presidential candidate and Isko Moreno’s running mate Willie Ong disagreed with the Manila mayor’s call for Vice President Leni Robredo to withdraw from the May 2022 presidential race.

Dapat ba siya mag-withdraw, VP Leni? Siyempre, ako, hindi. Go siya. Sa akin, go kayo lahat. Go kayo lahat. Walang magpipigil,” he said via a video streamed on his Facebook page.

Ong made the statement after the Manila mayor was being asked to drop from the elections by Robredo supporters.

Ong said Moreno’s statement was his personal opinion

‘Yung opinion niya, siyempre, hindi ko naman opinion. Iyon ‘yung experience niya. Hindi naman ako kasali sa usapan,” said Ong.

Ong was joined by Senate  President Vicente Sotto III, Senator Ping Lacson’s running mate. The vice presidential aspirants were invited at the last minute to join the press conference last April 17.

Ong added that he also admires Robredo and the vice president exhibits commonalities in terms of positions on certain issues.

“You know my honest view on VP Leni? She’s a lawyer. She’s good, great at answering questions, smart,” Ong said in Filipino. — Ronald Espartinez
