Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, who contracted Covid-19 twice last year, is on leave until the end of January to follow his doctors’ advice to rest.

Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya told reporters that Año was told by his doctors to “pace himself, to get plenty of rest, to prioritize his health and to further undergo some tests.”

“Since Secretary Año’s hospitalization from Covid in August 2020, he has not taken a single day of leave; always working even during Sundays, holidays and even at night,” Malaya said.

His leave of absence started today, Jan. 11.

Año is among Cabinet and pandemic task force officials whom President Rodrigo Duterte meets with regularly.

Año first contracted Covid-19 in March last year. He tested positive again in August.

Interior Undersecretary Bernardo Florece will be in charge during Año’s absence, Malaya said. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
