The Department of Education (DepEd) said on Thursday it would distribute 40,000 laptops to teachers, personnel, schools and field offices starting this month.

The DepEd said the laptops were purchased under its budget under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act or Bayanihan 2.

“The Department recognizes that teachers who use their own devices bought these out of their own expense. It is still the responsibility of the state to provide government-issued laptops,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in a statement.

“This would go a long way in our continued implementation of our Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan and in providing technical support to our field offices nationwide,”

The laptops will be delivered directly to regional offices, the DepEd said.
