The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday said talks regarding the extension of the enrollment period for school year 2022-2023 had yet to start.
DepEd spokesman Michael Poa said in a public briefing that the department had yet to discuss the extension of the enrollment period and urged parents to enroll their children by Aug. 22.
“Sa ngayon po, wala pa po tayong extension na napag-uusapan. Sa ngayon, hanggang August 22 and deadline ng enrollment natin,” he said.
More than 21 million students have enrolled for school year 2022-2023.
DepEd data as of Tuesday morning showed 21,272,820 students had enrolled with six enrollment days left.
Among the total number of enrollees, 18,722,393 were public school students; 2,478,488 were private school students; and 71,939 were from state universities and colleges.
The DepEd is targeting 28.6 million enrollees for the upcoming school year.
Basic education classes will start on Aug. 22.
Schools will be required to implement five-day-a-week in-person classes by Nov. 2.
The upcoming school year will have 203 school days and end on July 7, 2023. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
