The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday said it would look into a teacher’s Tiktok video that insinuated a “potential child abuse action.”

The DepEd was referring to a viral video posted by Tiktok user @leobondoclopez, where he showed how he would try to get the attention of a “cute student.”

“DepEd, as an institution trusted to protect the rights of every Filipino learner, does not tolerate any form of abuse towards children,” it said in a statement.

The agency said Education Secretary Leonor Briones had instructed the regional director of DepEd Central Luzon to investigate the video and impose sanctions on the teacher.

“We remind our teachers and non-teaching personnel to always subject our words and actions, including our social media activities, to the highest degree of ethical and professional standards,” the DepEd said.

The Tiktok video made the rounds on social media just as the country was celebrating National Children’s Month.

“As we celebrate the National Children’s Month, DepEd will continue to strengthen its policies and capacity-building activities to further promote our advocacy of protecting our learners against abuse,” the DepEd said.

It also urged teachers to “always champion a safe and nurturing learning environment for children, where physical, verbal, sexual and other forms of abuse and discrimination are renounced.” John Ezekiel J. Hirro
