The example shown in Episode 2 of DepEd TV’s Math 9 series wherein instead of dividing both sides by two, the teacher divided both sides by zero. Numbers that are divided by 0 are referred to as “undefined” in mathematics.

The Department of Education (DepEd) admitted airing the wrong solution to a math problem aired on DepEd TV earlier this week and said the version to be uploaded in its online channels would contain the correct one.

An example shown in Episode 2 of DepEd TV’s Math 9 series sought to determine the value of x in the equation 2x=0. Instead of dividing both sides by two, the teacher divided both sides by zero.

Numbers that are divided by 0 are referred to as “undefined.”

Education Undersecretary Allain Pascua acknowledged this and apologized for DepEd’s airing of the erroneous solution.

Pascua affirmed that once uploaded to DepEd Commons and the DepEd YouTube channel, the lesson would contain the correct solution.

He thanked critics of DepEd TV episodes and called on the public to also recognize the efforts of teachers.

John Ezekiel J. Hirro
