Nearly 18 million students have enrolled for school year 2022-2023, the Department of Education (DepEd) said on Tuesday.

The DepEd said 17,900,833 students had registered as of 7 a.m. on Tuesday, more than two weeks since enrollment opened on July 25.

Among the total number of enrollees, 8,235,937 were elementary students; 5,789,747 were junior high school students; 2,689,137 were senior high school students; and 1,186,012 were in kindergarten.

The DepEd is targeting 28.6 million enrollees for the upcoming school year.

Enrollment will end on Aug. 22, which is also the start of basic education classes for school year 2022 to 2023.

Schools will be required to implement five-day-a-week in-person classes by Nov. 2.

The upcoming school year will have 203 school days and end on July 7, 2023. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
