Fatalities due to inclement weather since January 1 have already jumped to 39, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
According to the NDRRMC’s 6 p.m. report, 12 of the logged fatalities came from Zamboanga; nine in Bicol; eight in Northern Mindanao; seven in Eastern Visayas, and one each in Mimaropa, Davao and Soccsksargen
Only 19 of the said deaths have been confirmed, the NDRRMC added.
On the other hand, five persons are still missing while 12 were injured due to the effect of the bad weather, caused by low pressure areas, shear line, and northeast monsoon.
Meanwhile, 1,941,146 persons or 475,983 families from Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao suffered due to the inclement weather.
A total of 88,660 individuals or 21,607 families stayed in 316 evacuation centers, while 27,976 people or 8,439 families were in other places.
NDRRMC also reported that 1,780 houses were destroyed.
A state of calamity has already been declared in 85 cities and municipalities.
