Davao Region, President Rodrigo Duterte’s home region, has 34 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The Department of Health (DOH) Davao Center for Health Development said Friday the region’s total active cases is now up to 374.

The breakdown of the 34 new cases are as follows: 15 are from Davao Oriental, 7 are from Davao City, 6 are from Davao de Oro, 4 are from Davao Occidental and 2 are from Davao del Norte.

A total of 639 persons were tested today out of which the 34 were confirmed to be infected with the deadly virus.

Among these new cases, 20 are Locally Stranded Individuals and 4 are Returning Overseas Filipinos.

The DOH Davao Region said also reported 7 recoveries: 6 from Davao City, and 1 from Davao del Sur.

Meanwhile, Tagum City in Davao del Norte reported that one of the confirmed cases reported by the region is a resident of the city. The patient is a 46 year old overseas Filipino worker from Barangay Canocotan who arrived in the city from Japan last June 24.  The patient is currently isolated at the Tagum City Infectious Diseases Isolation Facility and is Tagum’s 29th confirmed Covid-19 case.

The city has 10 active cases.  The City Health Office reported that they have 3 persons under investigation (PUI) and 281 persons under monitoring (PUM).

The Health Department announced that the Philippines has 1,841 new cases, increasing the country’s tally to 63,001. (Rommel F. Lopez)
