Davao de Oro has been put under a state of calamity after a series of earthquakes that destroyed hundreds of houses last week. 

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the resolution putting the entire province under a state of calamity during a virtual session on Saturday, March 11. 

“In order to facilitate expedient delivery of services to the affected individuals and/or communities in our province, a declaration of state of calamity is deemed necessary,” the resolution read.

Around 2,712 houses were damaged due to the quakes, a report from the Davao Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council showed. 

Moreover, 6,720 families were affected by the disaster while around P39 million worth of infrastructure across the Davao region were damaged.

The government has already offered around P16 million in aid to affected residents. 

A total of 1,468 earthquakes have been recorded in Davao de Oro, with magnitudes ranging from 1.4 to 5.9. Among the said numbers, 33 tremors were experienced and felt by residents.
