Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Thursday said the city remains free from Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) cases, even if the City Health Office is monitoring the conditions of eight Chinese nationals who recently arrived in the city.

Duterte-Carpio assured the people that the city government “has been closely coordinating with the Department of Health and other national government agencies on what measures to take to prevent and control the spread of the virus.”

“We have placed health standards to avert the feared spread of the virus. People showing symptoms and have been suspected as possible cases were closely and properly monitored by our health professionals trained to handle these cases,” she said.

She also called for “sobriety and ask the public to stop spreading misinformation, which could only aggravate the situation.”

Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Gene Gulanes assured the public that there are no confirmed 2019-nCoV cases in the city.

“As of now, we do not have a confirmed case of novel coronavirus here in the city. Those who were being monitored do not show symptoms that fit the definition of coronavirus,” he said.

Gulanes said they are monitoring the conditions of eight Chinese nationals who recently arrived in the city assuring the public that their conditions are far different from the definition of the coronavirus. He said the eight individuals did not show symptoms of flu, fever, and cough.

The local health official said the city government is closely coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Bureau of Quarantine in strict monitoring of all people coming in to the city, especially from areas with reported coronavirus cases.

He added that the Francisco Bangoy International Airport is fully equipped with thermal monitors and a quarantine room reserved to handle people showing symptoms of coronavirus.  (Rommel F. Lopez)
