The Palace on Wednesday announced the appointment of Domingo Panganiban, a Department of Agriculture (DA) undersecretary, as the officer-in-charge of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA).

According to Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil, Panganiban will hold the position until a permanent administrator is designated.

Panganiban assumed the position after David John Thaddeus Alba resigned from the post due to health issues last month.

Alba stepped down from the position at the peak of the controversy surrounding the recent importation of 440,000 metric tons of sugar.

His resignation took effect on April 15.

Panganiban previously served as agriculture secretary during the administrations of former presidents Joseph Estrada in 2001 and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2005. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
