The Coalition for Social Accountability and Transparency firmly calls for advancing the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s May 2025 election.
Csat members from different provinces in Barmm gather in Makati City for a Press Conference detailing their position on the proposed 2025 Barmm election postponement by Senate President Chiz Escudero.
“Having a government is not giving more power to the powerful, but address[ing] the injustices to minorities,” said Edchamcy Abelardo from Csat Non-Moro Indigenous Peoples Maguindanao.
The panel highlights the eagerness and readiness of Bangsamoro politicians and people alike toward the 2025 elections, and how all the motions are set to push through with the first-ever Barmm election.
Rashid Bancolongan from Csat Lanao del Norte adds, “It’s the matter of having the legitimate power to establish accountability towards our people.”
The Barmm 2025 elections signify a lot of things, especially the legitimacy of leadership among the Bangsamoro people, and giving power to the people by letting them vote for the right leaders who will take responsibility for them and their lands.
All the Csat members reinstate that Sulu’s leave from Barmm does not account for another postponement given that May 2025 is still many months away, giving them plenty of time to deal with the aftermath leading to the election.
Chief Minister of Bangsamoro Murad Ebrahim has already gone to the Senate to present their position to continue with the elections and disregard postponement. Yesha Ryn Santos and Mery-anne Alejandre
