The interagency task force dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic has ordered the government sweepstakes agency to release P420.6 million to fund subsidies for members of the state-run Philippine Health Insurance Corp. or PhilHealth.

In a resolution dated March 24, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases said the amount represented 50 percent of the remainder of a standby fund, and would finance PhilHealth Covid-19 packages.

The task force also endorsed the release of P1.5 billion in financial assistance for overseas workers, including those repatriated from virus-hit countries.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday signed into law the “Bayanihan To Heal As One Act,” which grants him extra powers to address the pandemic. (PressONE.ph)
