The Philippines has consistently posted a high number of recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) after the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Sunday 56 new recoveries, bringing the total number to 572.

Deaths from the disease increased to 409 after the DOH confirmed 12 new fatalities.

Meanwhile, 172 confirmed cases were recorded in the country, bringing the total number of COVID-19 positive cases to 6,259.

52,837 persons were tested for COVID-19 as of Saturday, according to the health department’s bulletin. 86.4% tested negative while 13.6% posted positive.

As of this writing, there are 17 certified laboratories in the country certified to conduct independent COVID-19 testing.

Singapore has overtaken the top spot in Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 6,588. Indonesia is second with 6,575 cases trailed by the Philippines. (RJ Espartinez)
