The Philippines posted a record high number of recoveries for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at 101, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,315, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Monday. 

Meanwhile, the DOH also reported 209 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 9,485.

47 percent or 122 patients of the new cases came from Metro Manila, 33 percent or 88 positive cases came from Region VII while the remaining 20 percent or 52 infections were reported from other areas in the country. 

Fatalities, on the other hand, inched to 623 after 16 more patients expired due to the disease. 

DOH’s data revealed as of Sunday that 113,574 people have been successfully tested for COVID-19.  89 percent posted negative while 11 percent tested positive.

Singapore remains on top in Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 18,778. Indonesia followed behind with 11,587 trailed by the Philippines. 

Meanwhile, the USA remains the country with the most number of COVID-19 cases in the world at 1,188,826 with Spain (247,122 cases) and Italy (210,717 cases) on its tail.  (RJ Espartinez)
