Recoveries in the Philippines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) inched closer to the 2,000 mark with 82 new recoveries, bringing the total to 1,924, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Sunday.

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 cases soared to 10,794 after the DOH’s daily bulletin confirmed 184 new infections.

According to recent data from the Health Department, 77 patients or 42 percent of the new cases came from Metro Manila, 75 cases or 41 percent came from Region VII while the remaining 32 or 17 percent were recorded all throughout the country.

Fatalities, on the other hand, moved to 719 after 15 more patients expired from the disease.

Singapore remains on top in Southeast Asia and ranks 25th worldwide for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 23,336 with Indonesia (14,032 cases) and the Philippines on behind.   (RJ Espartinez)
