The Department of Health (DOH) announced that the spike in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections believed to be influenced by the more contagious Omicron variant could increase by the end of January.
“We are projecting that this Omicron variant, because we assumed that this in is our communities already, cases will continue to rise and it may peak the end of the month,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a mix of English and Filipino in an interview with DZMM Teleradyo.
Vergeire added that new infections will continue to double daily.
“Ang projections po natin kapag tinitingnan natin sa pang araw araw ay nag dodoble po ang mga kaso natin,” she said.
The sudden increase of Covid-19 infections came after the country posted 14 cases of the Omicron variant, with three of the said numbers as local cases. Omicron, as per experts, is the most contagious Covid-19 variant today. Ronald Espartinez
