The Department of Health (DOH) said the Philippines may experience an increase in hospital utilization rate by the end of August or start of September due to rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that based on projections, the Covid-19 infections in the country may increase to 1,800 to 11,000 next month if the booster uptake will not be improved.
“Towards the end of August and start of September, we might be seeing an increase in hospitalization. As to the increase in the number of cases, the updated projections would state that it might be that the peak would be at the end of this July,” Vergeire said in a CNN-Philippines interview.
In June, Vergeire said compliance to minimum public health standards decreased by 21% amid the surge of Covid-19 infections.
She said that the Covid-19 infections may increase to 17,105 by the end of July with a 21% decrease in health protocol compliance.
