The total number of Covid-19 cases worldwide surpassed the five-million mark at 3:32 p.m. on Saturday (Philippine time), based on the World Health Organization (WHO) tally.

A total of 5,061,476 cases have been confirmed and reported to WHO, with 331,475 deaths.

The United States recorded the most number of cases at 1,547,973. Russia and Brazil followed with 326,448 and 310,087 cases, respectively.

China, where the first cases of coronavirus were detected, tallied 84,522. World leaders including US President Donald Trump however have accused China of covering up its death toll and said in a tweet last April that China’s cases were “far higher” than what was reported.

The Philippines recorded 13,777 cases as of May 23.
