The Department of Health (DOH) observed a spike in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in five regions with the Philippines still in the middle of a surge in infections.

According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, aside from Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and the Cordillera Region also continue to post an increase in infections.

“No’ng nag-umpisa ang NCR Plus bubble, nakita na rin natin na medyo tumataas na [ang kaso] do’n sa ibang lugar,” she said in a virtual briefing.

“Their healthcare utilization is also being affected,” she added.

Treatment czar Health Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega announced earlier that hospital occupancy in Regions 3 and 4 posted an increase.

The NCR Plus, composed of Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, and Laguna were put under a “bubble” until the end of April to control the surge of infections. Ronald dela Cruz
