The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 3,999 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) bringing the country’s total case load to 209,544.

The DOH said there are 71,745 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine. Of this, 91.2% are mild, 6.8% are asymptomatic, 0.8% are severe, and 1.2% are in critical condition.

The DOH said a total of 36 duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

 

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate jumped to 134,474 after 510 more patients recovered from the deadly disease.

The DOH also reported 91 new fatalities bringing the nationwide death toll to 3,325.

Among the new deaths, 1% occurred in May, 2% occurred in June and 33 deaths or 36% occurred in July and 55 deaths or 60% occurred in August.

Experts from the University of the Philippines projected that the country’s Covid-19 cases may reach 250,000 by the end of August and may rise up to 375,000 by the end of September.

The Philippines has the fourth highest number of reported new cases in the world.  India tops the list again with 7,720 new cases, followed by Mexico’s 6,026 cases and Russia’s 4,829 cases.

The country still has the most number of total cases in Southeast Asia.  Indonesia is second with 165,887 and Singapore with 56,666.  Rommel F. Lopez
