284 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported in the Philippines, bringing the country’s total cases to 4,932, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Monday.

The country’s COVID-19 death toll climbed to 315 after 18 new fatalities have been confirmed by DOH’s daily bulletin.

In a bit of good news, recoveries surpassed the fatalities on Monday with 45 patients successfully recovering from the disease, bringing the total number to 242.

Meanwhile, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. announced Sunday that five more health institutions have recently received certification to conduct COVID-19 testing. Currently, the total number of testing centers in the country increased to 15.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire also said the DOH will procure more testing kits good for three months to meet the target testing capacity of 3,000 per day and 8,000 to 10,000 daily by the end of April. (RJ Espartinez)
