Positive cases in the Philippines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) exceeded the 12,000 mark on Friday after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed 215 new infections, elevating the total to 12,091.

144 patients or 67% of the new cases came from the National Capital Region, 69 individuals or 32% came from various areas across the country, while two patients or 1% came from Region 7.

Fatalities, on the other hand, inches to 806 after the DOH’s daily bulletin reported 16 more deaths from the respiratory disease.

In a bit of good news, 123 more patients have successfully defeated the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,460.

The top 3 countries in Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases retained their spots: Singapore at 26,891, Indonesia with 16,494 cases trailed by the Philippines. (RJ Espartinez)
