The Commission on Elections (Comelec) signed a resolution asking President Rodrigo Duterte to make May 9, 2022 a non-working holiday in connection with the national and local elections. 

Comelec chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan said in a media briefing that the Comelec en banc signed Resolution No. 10784 that asks Duterte to declare May 9 as a special non-working holiday in the whole country. 

“We signed resolution no. 10784 requesting President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to declare May 9, 2022 a  special non-working holiday all throughout the country in connection with the national and local elections,” Pangarungan said.

Local absentee voting has already started last April 27 and will last until April 29. 

The Comelec said 84,357 voters have been classified as local absentee voters (LAV). Under Comelec rules, LAVs are are government officials and employees, including members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) as well as members of the media, media practitioners including their technical and support staff who are duly registered voters but are temporarily assigned to perform election duties on election day, or in case of media voters, they will not be able to vote due to the performance of their functions in covering and reporting on the elections.; — Ronald Espartinez
