More than 65.5 million voters are expected to participate in the 2022 national and local elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Thursday.
In a press briefing, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said this year’s elections will have over eight million new voters.
“As of today, the projected number of voters for [the 2022 elections] stands at 65.5 million. Throughout the entire registration process, we added to the list of voters a total of 8,147,080,” he said.
The voter registration period for the 2022 polls ended on Oct. 30.
More than four million individuals aged 18 to 21 registered to vote in 2022, Jimenez said.
In the 2016 national elections, there were 55,739,911 registered voters. Only 43,716,817 voted.
The 2022 elections will be held on May 9, 2022. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
