The NBA is set to return to Philippine TV as the league has signed a three-year broadcast deal with Cignal TV prior to the restart of the 2019-2020 season.
“We’re very happy that we are finally able to close this deal with the NBA even during the pandemic, even during this very difficult time for all of us. And finally, the NBA is home — in Cignal,” Cignal and TV5 President and CEO Robert Galang said in a statement.
The deal will officially commence when the 2020-2021 season opens. However, it will also cover the rest of the 2019-2020 season which will take place in a bubble in Orlando, Florida.
Cable channel NBA TV Philippines will air daily games.
TV5 will air free TV games every Saturday and Sunday, while One Sports will broadcast one game every Monday and Friday.
“Our desire was really to close the deal with them for this regular season. And then all of a sudden, this pandemic hit…. The minute that they informed us they will be reviving the games in their bubble, of course we said we have to be a part of that,” Cignal TV First Vice President and Head of Marketing Guido Zaballero said.
The NBA restart is scheduled to begin on July 31.
