After closing malls due to physical distancing violations last May 18, Cavite City Gov. Jonvic Remulla announced that malls will reopen today, May 20.

Malls in Cavite will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with each customer allowed one hour to shop. Customers may enter the premises until 5 p.m., and should be out by 6 p.m..

Remulla said that malls should accept only local customers, with priority lanes for frontliners and safety marshals to attend to customer queries.

In-mall supermarkets will be exempt from the one-hour limit, but all customers must enter through the main mall entrance.

Remulla hinted that if social distancing measures were followed, the city would lay down guidelines on the lifting of liquor ban.

On May 18, Remulla told Caviteños in a Facebook post that the general community quarantine (GCQ) was “not a freedom pass,” after the city confirmed 40 additional Covid-19 cases four days into the GCQ.

As of May 17, Cavite has recorded 275 total Covid-19 cases. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
