Broadcast journalist Cathy Yang has been appointed head of corporate communications of the PLDT group, the telco giant announced in a statement on Thursday.

Before her PLDT appointment, Yang hosted three programs for the ABS-CBN News Channel, where she was anchor and managing editor.

Yang will serve as communication strategist and adviser to PLDT’s top management and will “oversee the communications needs of the broader MVP Group of Companies, of which PLDT is part.”

“We welcome Cathy into the senior management ranks of PLDT and Smart. … Her extensive experience as a financial and media person, here and abroad, will add a new dimension to our communication strategy in articulating and presenting who we are and how we perform. She will bring our era of communication into the digital space,” said PLDT chairman, president and chief executive officer Manuel Pangilinan.

In the PLDT statement, Yang said: “I am tremendously privileged to be part of the Philippines’ biggest telecom firm PLDT, helping consumers and [businesses] thrive during the COVID-19 pandemic, streaming content and delivering products and services through digital connectivity.”

Yang replaces ex-journalist Ramon Isberto, who retired as public affairs head of PLDT and its subsidiary Smart Communications after 25 years. Francis David T. Perez
