The Philippine National Police (PNP) inaugurated on Tuesday its own coronavirus disease (Covid-19) Reverse Transcription – Polymerase Chain Reaction testing facility at the Crime Laboratory in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

“We see it clearly, there is a need to have our own testing center as you can see that there are increasing trend of Covid-19 cases among our police frontliners every day,” said PNP Chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa.

The testing facility, which was accredited by the Department of Health (DOH), will function on a limited daily capacity for 150 confirmatory tests, the PNP said.

Police Brig. Gen. Herminio Tadeo Jr, the PNP Health Service director, said the number of positive cases among police officers as of Tuesday stood at 281, with 117 recoveries.

A mobile swabbing hub was also blessed at the National Capital Region Police Office Headquarters in Taguig. (Jojo Mangahis)
