The Calabarzon region will not be under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) the strictest lockdown level to contain the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant of the virus that causes Covid-19.
The National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 chief implementer Vince Dizon debunked rumors that the region will be on lockdown.
“Wala pong desisyon na ganyan,” Dizon said in a public forum.
Calabarzon region, home to 5 provinces and some 16 million residents in in different quarantine classifications. Only Laguna is under the modified ECQ, the second strictest lockdown, from August 1 to 15.
Cavite and Rizal are under general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions from August 1 to 15 while Batangas and Quezon are under GCQ from August 1 to 31.
Neighboring region, Metro Manila will be under ECQ from Aug. 6 to 20.
Calabarzon along with Metro Manila was last placed under ECQ in March as cases surged pushed hospitals beyond their bed capacity. Rommel F. Lopez
