The City Government of Cagayan de Oro will be rolling out its “Mobile Palengke” or convenient markets to strengthen social distancing measures amidst the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Mobile Palengke will consist of agricultural produce purchased from local farmers and will be delivered to various food terminals in the barangays.
To test the feasibility of the plan, a dry run was implemented where fresh vegetables are delivered to the Food Terminal in Brgy. Agusan. Consumers can purchase the products at lower prices.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto started the idea when he launched a “mobile palengke” using the city’s trucks to transport goods in residential areas. Valenzuela City followed the initiative using his e-tricycles to enter narrow roads. Other cities such as Caloocan City and Paranaque city also have their own version of the “mobile palengke” to help enhance social distancing measures and help curb the spread of the infectious COVID-19 in their cities.
