As Christmas slowly approaches, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) advised consumers to buy only certified Christmas lights to avoid possible dangers from substandard products.

Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo explained that Christmas lights being offered in stores are safe if they have a Product Standard (PS) mark and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker.

More than the stickers, the DTI reminded the public to make sure that the wirings of the Christmas lights are thick to avoid fire.

“[Ito ay] para siguradong pumasa sa kalidad at sa lahat ng testing ng DTI,” she said.

Castelo added that consumers may check the DTI website to browse for the list of manufacturers and importers of Christmas lights. Ronald Espartinez
