Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado has resigned from President Rodrigo Duterte’s Cabinet due to medical reasons, Malacañang said on Friday.

Palace spokesman Harry Roque said Duterte had accepted Avisado’s resignation.

Duterte has designated Budget Undersecretary Tina Rose Marie Canda as officer in charge, Roque said.

Avisado earlier contracted Covid-19 and went on medical leave from Aug. 2 to 13.

Avisado’s resignation came ahead of the deliberations for the national budget for 2022.

House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said Avisado’s resignation would “not affect” the budget deliberations in Congress.

“We trust that the Department of Budget and Management led by its officer-in-charge, Undersecretary Tina Rose Marie Canda, will carry on the task and continue its work on the 2022 National Expenditure Program,” he said in a statement. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
