BTS are up against giant musical acts, bagging three nominations in the 2019 American Music Awards.

The South Korean supergroup is nominated for Favorite Social Artist, which they took home in 2018. The band is up against Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes and the other K-pop supergroup, EXO.

They are also nominated for the Tour of the Year award for their “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself” world tour that was held in different stadiums including the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, MetLife in New Jersey and Soldier Field in Chicago. The group also had a 2-day historic run at the Wembley Stadium in London and King Fahd International Stadium in Saudi Arabia. Other nominees include Ariana Grande, Elton John, Pink and Ed Sheeran.

BTS are up for Favorite Duo/Group in Pop/Rock along with The Jonas Brothers and Panic at the Disco! They are the first non-English act to be ever nominated in the category since the first AMAs in 1974. The group won the same award at the Billboard Music Awards earlier this year.

Voting for the AMAs has started and fans can cast votes on Google by searching “AMAs Vote.”

Ahead of the AMA nominations, BTS claimed another world record for the fastest time to reach 1 million followers on TikTok. The Guinness World Records said the group had amassed its first 1 million followers in just 3 hours and 31 minutes after the announcement that they joined the social media platform last Sept. 25 at 6:40 pm (local time).

According to statistics from TikTok, the BTS account gained 2 million followers after 13 hours. It grew to 3 million after 59 hours. The debut post gained more than 4 million likes.

The septet opened a TikTok account to the surprise of many fans, which turned out to be part of the promotional campaign for the release of “Chicken Noodle Soup” by j-hope featuring Becky G, where the viral dance challenge #CNSChallenge took place.

This is not the only social media achievement of BTS that’s officially recognized by Guinness as they also claimed the record for most used hashtag on Twitter in 24 hours during the voting period for the annual Soompi Awards.

BTS will be featured on the Guinness World Records 2020 for the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours for their single “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey, from the Map of the Soul: Persona album. The official count was 74,600,000 in just one day.
