The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Wednesday released “enhanced” banknotes to aid the elderly and visually impaired.
Short horizontal lines on the right side of the banknote, which can be touched and felt, were added to the new design of the bills, the BSP said.
“There will be one pair of these lines for the 50-Piso, two pairs for the 100-Piso, three for the 200-Piso, four for the 500-Piso, and five for the 1000-Piso. This is seen to assist the elderly and the visually impaired identify banknotes and distinguish one denomination from another,” the central bank said in a statement.
A “roller bar effect” was also included on the value panels. “Color-shifting” was included in the Optically Variable Link for the P500 bill and the P1,000 bill to improve their security features, said.
The new design, said the BSP, would also highlight culture “by featuring indigenous Filipino weaves on the windowed security thread of the 100-Piso, 200-Piso, 500-Piso and 1000-Piso banknotes.” Veracel A. Martinez
