President Rodrigo Duterte has set the opening of School Year 2021 to 2022 on Sept. 13.

The decision was announced by the Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday.

Duterte was made to choose from three dates: Aug. 23, Sept. 6 and Sept. 13.

In a statement, the DepEd said the school calendar for the upcoming school year would be released “soon.”

“We hope for our stakeholders’ continued cooperation and support as we prepare for another challenging yet worthwhile endeavor of educating our children amid a global health crisis,” it said.

Public schools nationwide will continue to use the blended learning method as face-to-face classes remain barred.

The government has yet to allow limited face-to-face classes in low-risk areas.

In July last year, Duterte signed Republic Act 11480, which allows the chief executive to set at any date the opening of classes in case of a state of calamity or emergency.

In 2020, classes in public schools opened in the month of October. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
