Baguio City has lifted its mandatory outdoor mask-wearing policy following the national government’s updated masking protocols, its public information office announced on Tuesday.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the city was prepared to implement the voluntary mask-wearing policy even before Malacañang’s announcement.

“I welcome these new developments and in fact had prepared instructions ahead of the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) recommendations to the president,” he said.

“It is high time that we progress forward with the revival of those activities and projects that were stalled during the worst days of the pandemic, but we shall do so with caution,” he added.

Partially vaccinated individuals, senior citizens, and immunocompromised individuals are “highly encouraged” to wear masks, the mayor said.

Mask-wearing is still required indoors, in private or public establishments, including in public transportation by land, air, or sea and in outdoor settings where distancing cannot be observed.

The national government retained the imposition of physical distancing and other public health standards. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
