Baguio City confirmed 77 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) Monday.
 
The city government confirmed that the sudden rise in new cases was due to another local outbreak identified in two more barangays through contact tracing.
 
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the two puroks in City Camp Central and one purok in Dominican reported marked increases in cases with the detection of more infected contacts of current patients.
 
Out of 77 new cases, city health officials confirmed 69 of the cases through contact tracing, one through expanded testing and another one one tested positive after taking a test as a travel requirement. Six of the new cases are symptomatic .
 
The identified areas had been put on hard lockdown until Oct. 10. Magalong said more tests will be done in the areas with another set of 120 contacts scheduled in the next two days.
 
Total cases now stand at 1,222
 
 
No deaths were reported today. Total deaths remain at 16.
