Health authorities in Bacolod strengthened their security to prevent the entry of the deadly coronavirus which originated from China.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia tasked the City Health Office (CHO) to strictly monitor and intensify their surveillance to safeguard the city from the virus. Neighboring countries like South Korean, Japan and Thailand have reported cases of infection of the new strain of pneumonia-causing virus.
The number of cases in China have been uncontrollably increasing turning it into a worldwide concern. Leonardia said the upcoming Chinese New Year will bring millions of people at risk if safety precautions will not be implemented.
According to the World Health Organization, coronaviruses are a large family of viruses from the common cold to more severe diseases such as the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). (RJ Espartinez)
