Apple on Wednesday (PH time) introduced the first-ever iPhones to feature 5G connectivity— the iPhone 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max and 12 Mini.
All the new iPhones are equipped with the Apple A14 Bionic chip, a fice-nanometer neural engine which the company said brings a 50-percent performance improvement over the A13 chips used in the iPhone 11 line.
The front of the phones boasts of a Super Retina XDR display while covered in “Ceramic Shield,” a type of glass made in collaboration with smartphone glass giant Corning.
Apple said the new glass technology could improve drop resistance by up to four times.
The iPhone 12 line also features IP68 dust and water resistance.
The rear of the new iPhones can magnetically attach to accessories with Apple’s MagSafe technology. The MagSafe line of products includes cases, wireless chargers and wallets.
The new iPhone 12 boasts of a 6.1-inch display. The “mini” variant packs the same features but in a tinier and more compact device with a 5.4-inch screen.
The “pro” devices have a LiDar scanner equipped in their camera modules, along with a third telephoto lens. The LiDar scanner provides the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max with better autofocus, better depth perception, better portrait processing and better support for augmented reality applications.
Apple also announced that it will no longer include EarPods and charging bricks in the box with its new iPhones.
Apple priced the iPhone 12 in the US at $799 (~P38,000), the 12 Mini at $699 (~P34,000), 12 Pro at $999 (~P48,000) and 12 Pro Max at $1099 (~P53,000) for the base storage variants. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
