The Philippines on Monday welcomed the arrival of 1,196,910 Pfizer-BioNTechCovid-19 vaccine doses which arrived in two batches.
The first shipment of 924,300 doses arrived on Monday morning.
According to the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19, the jabs were donations made by the US through the Covax facility.
“On behalf of Secretary (Carlito Galvez Jr.) and the Philippine government, we’d like to thank the US government for donating us these vaccines,” Wilben Mayor, chief of staff and spokesperson of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said during after the arrival of the vaccines.
Mayor said the vaccines would be used in the inoculation of minors, which would start on Oct. 15.
The second batch containing 272,610 Pfizer shots arrived on Monday night.
The doses were procured by the Philippine government.
According to the NTF, a total of 8,377,200 Pfizer doses out of the 40 million doses purchased by the government through a multilateral agreement with the Asian Development Bank have been delivered to the country.
As of Oct. 11, the Philippines has received 87,690,960 Covid-19 vaccine doses from different manufacturers. The country projects receiving 100 million doses by the end of October. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
