John Krasinski’s post-apocalyptic thriller sequel “A Quiet Place Part II” opened the weekend with $48 million in ticket sales, making it the biggest three-day haul of the pandemic era.
“This is an outstanding opening,” said David Gross, who specializes in strategic consulting to the movie industry, in an interview with “Variety.”
“It’s well above average for a horror sequel,” Gross added.
“A Quiet Place Part II” is the first domestic release this year to cross the threshold from “great opening weekend given the pandemic to great opening weekend, period—offering undeniable proof that the domestic box office is back,” said Imax CEO Rich Gelfold.
“A Quiet Place Part II” garnered $5 million from IMAX screens alone.
The sequel replaced the silenced horror of the first film with full on faster, coarser, and far noisier action.
