Six fishermen from Barangay Maybato North, San Jose Antique were successfully rescued after their boat capsized in the waters of Odiongan, Romblon at the peak of typhoon Ursula’s destructive wrath.

The rescued fishermen were: Julius Escoril, 32, the boat’s captain with his crew members Eduardo Aguilar, 33, Jeson Cambongga, 19, Agustin Del Rosario, 18, and a 16-year-old minor.

Their 19-year-old companion, Ruben Floro, was rescued in the waters of San Andres, Romblon. They were immediately rushed to the Romblon Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.

The Odiongan Public Information Office said the fishermen came from Sibuyan Island and were forced to seek shelter in Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan to keep them safe from the wrath of typhoon “Ursula”. However, they decided to sail home to Antique but powerful waves wrecked their fishing boat around 8 a.m. on Dec. 25. (RJ Espartinez)
