Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents arrested 30 undocumented Indian nationals on Wednesday morning at Capitol Estate, Diliman, Quezon City.

“They were resisting arrest, even assaulting our Intelligence agents,” BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.  He added that “several sharp objects and weapons such as machetes”were found in their possession.

The agents who executed the arrest order were assaulted and chased with machetes by the illegal Indian nationals during the operations.

BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr was thankful that none of his agents were hurt. “The incident shows the risks that we encounter during operations. There was even an instance in the past when one of our men was shot in the performance of our duties,” he said.

“We will not tolerate foreign nationals living and working in the country without proper visas. The BI will not rest until all undocumented aliens in the Philippines are hunted down and deported back to their home countries,” Morente warned.

The Indian nationals are currently awaiting deportation.  (RJ Espartinez)
